is this for hikers so they can be located?

not really, when you go hiking and turn it on it tracks your every movement, if you become lost or disoriented it will show you the exact path which you came. it also has the ability to save favorite places so if you want to go back to that place it will take you back the very same way. being the way gps technology is i would image that officials would be able to "ping" your gps signal to find you if someone knew you had it. hope that helps

when my son was in scouting and i could walk we used it all the time, its really neat you can set your base camp and go exploring with out the hassel of trying to figure out your way back plus if you dont want to get back to camp the way you came it will guide you on an alternate route

i guess it could but it doesn't display a map just shows a line of your path and coordinates.

I REALLY want (or, need!) this for my dad!!! He lost his handheld GPS a few days ago and this one would work GREAT for what he uses his for! (Trust me, he uses his daily!) I'm trying to sell a gift card with a GIN so that I can have credits for this, and hopefully someone will use it in time! Thanks for listing, I hope I win! :)
