That is a good question. I looked at the packaging to see if it had any numbers or size chart---it does not. Then I just tried to google it to see if they had a chart online for this specific product. I suppose the safest way to look at it is to go by the "universal size conversion chart" and for American women the L/XL would be similar to a size 12/14---that would be my best guess according to this link I found: http://www.genuineluxuryoutlet.com/guides/ebay_clothing_size_conversion_chart.pdf
