Questions & Comments
Oh....Ok. Cool! TY again! I will be sure to check that out! (& ty for your patient replies.....I should do my own research b4 asking but I didn't know if I'd get to it in time.) And pole beans.....dunno how many my roomie & I would personally use, but my bunnies would probably mow them down as they do with all fresh greens I offer them. lol TY again! Watching and saving to bid!
Do you think they'd do well in a barely tended (but tended lovingly!) small garden in coastal FL? My room-mate and I had some sprout simply due to my tossing veggie waste in the garden but it was more a weed and got choked out. We did enjoy a few months of fresh tomatoes! Yummy!
I'll even roto a small space if we can get some tomatoes, cukes and green peppers out of it. Problem being....everything grows here it seems. (I was raised in MI so I'm still attuning to nature here.) In your honest opinion, if I cleared out a 5' x 3' plot (The largest our community will allow.) do you think I could successfully keep at least 2 of these (say tomatoes and cukes)?
Go to the library and check out books on "Square Foot Gardening" Tomatoes grow vertically, so they will take up very little 'ground' space. Same with cukes. With that size plot, and being in FL, they should be quite prolific! You will have lots of room to grow other things as well. Try pole beans too.
Most leaf lettuce grows super fast (around 30 days) and the bunnies will love it. You should have an Extension office near you (sometimes where 4-H and other community buildings are). Anyway, track down the Master Gardener(s) that should be there. They will know exactly what grows well in your area (which is probably everything...). You may be able to plant a fruit tree...there are trees that have multiple grafts for several different fruits, on the same root stock. Gardening is really fun. Enjoy!
