This webcam works straight from the box with Windows by plugging into a USB port or bus. On Linux Ubuntu it works after downloading and installing Cheese Webcam Booth from Ubuntu Software Center which is on the left icon bar on all Ubuntu OS. It has a long cord so you can move it around quite a bit in the room you are working in. It takes fair pictures with regular day light and some lamps while it takes excellent pictures with a stronger lighting if you can manage it. It takes pictures and records video with sound that plays back on Mmovie player and others. It also downloads to Utube where it gets converted into webm or mp4 files. I got a Jazz and don't need this anymore.
