I got this phone card thinking I was able to use it. It doesn't work for my phone because I have an unlimited plan and the card isn't compatible with it.

Yes once you get the $45/ month unlimited plan ---> you have to always buy the $45/month unlimited plan.

No.... i thru it away as soon as I got the card.i would have takin it back and tryed exchanging it.

No actually you don't have to get the unlimited plan once you have it depends on the phone if it is an android/smartphone you can only use the 45 card, if it's not an android/smartphone you CAN switch back and forth
