Signed by the Twins in 1961, Bernie made an immediate impact when he finished 3rd in Rookie of the Year voting in 1962 with an impressive .269/12/64 rookie season. After missing much of 1965 and 1966 to injuries, After 5 seasons with the twins, Bernie was traded to the "new" Washington Senators (the Twins had been the Washington team just 7 years prior, and had moved to Minnesota) where he played 5 more seasons. All told, Allen played 12 MLB seasons, primarily as a second baseman.
