The listing, VINTAGE MOURNING BROOCH ~~Marked AUSTRIA has ended.

A Mourning Brooch seemed an appropriate item to list on Black Friday~~

This unique Brooch ( as I feel most True, Mourning Brooches are), has a lot going on & the composition is very complex. This piece has a repetition in 3's, 3 Pearls, 3 Flowers & 3 Stars on the top of the Rhinestone)
Did the deceased have 3 Children? Were they 30 or 3 Years old? Very interesting stuff, indeed.

We have 3 Lovely Pearls that are most likely Faux but I'm not certain. There is a larger sized Aurora Rhinestone that sparkles like crazy & also 3 crimled metal flower, rising up on Gold stems, with the Rhinestone as thier base.

The lightweight, Gold setting , ( not sure of metal or purity, could be gold tone, thin plate or brass) is wavy in detail & almost all the gold has been done over in Black, buffed, enamel, with a touch of gold accenting the rim & flower tips.

The back is not black & is, in fact, very bright, detailed Gold & open to the intricate rear detailing of the flower & pearl "stems"

There is the Signature "made in Austria" on the roll over pin back closure.
It measures 1 5/8 inches in Diameter.

As I said, very complex & a wonderfully unique & beautiful creation that was to honor the passing of a Dear Loved one. I believe it was made mid-century & has been previously Loved & worn.

This morning I showed this to my cousin and she turned white!!!!! She pulled a photo album of her grandma, my Aunt, and I'll be damned!!!!! There is a picture-of her grandma wearing a brooch that could be this ones twin if it in fact isn't the same one!! The pic is old and in black and white but was taken at my other Aunts funeral located on the Rhine River in Germany! Were did you get it? I don't think I ever even asked, but would love to know!!! xoxo

My Mother married a German man after my Dad died. They went to Europe & visited his Family & his very aged Mother. She was about 96 or so. She was very impressed with my Mom & gave her a small wooden chest of sewing items, beads, old coins & some jewelry. My Mom never gave that gift a thought as she is more into "Modern" Jewelry. She knows that I AM into Antiques, so she gave the box to me. When I saw this brooch, I felt a connection & KNEW, it was a Mourning Brooch. It so happened to be "Black Friday" & I thought it an appropriate time to offer it up.
Whew~~~now I'm getting chills~~~~

I hail from an Austrian family & My husband was born in Austria - what a lovely conversation piece. Black is now wearable. I remember when these were thought of a bad omen to wear.

Just had this feeling to come look at the brooch once more... I almost fell off of my chair as I read the common denominator in this piece of 3's. Hang on to your hats cuz here goes!

This is the end of the 3rd year in a row I have lost 3 loved ones or family members all within a 3 month time frame of each other.

One of the people I lost was age 33, the next was 63 and the last was 93...(notice the 63 has 3+3 making the 6 in 63 ....the 93 year old has 3 x 3 making the 9 in 93, and the 33 year old goes without saying! )

I am now headed to one of my curios and pulling some crystals and stones... it suddenly got cold in here! No I am not kidding... wow!!! I need this piece! Or maybe that's a no, I do not????
