I do not think that your key is a skeleton key but a wardrobe or trunk key note the depression in the end.

Oh wow I am from wv and those were the keys for the inside doors of the homestead memories of time lost. To have just one still would have been great but none of us knew where they had disappeared too.

Yeah now I looked closer those are for chests such as the old cedar chests women used to hold the things they want to collect as in a "Hope" Chest. Mine sets across from me. It was my mother's from when she married my dad. But the key was not there. Not sure what kind of key would even work.
