They are charged by the Charger. They don't have wires they are real walkie talkies with channels.

Whats the distance allowable on these? Greater than 1 mile?

I am not real sure I do know greater than 60 yards because we used them to hunt with and we were father apart and they worked fine.

wow ya know I never knew they had a flash light on them so I had to try it out. About blinded myself !! Its little red button on the side and don't look at the bottom when you do it. lol
