Captain Lucky is a relatively new artisan tomato variety bred by Millard Murdock in North Carolina. If you want a rare and interesting tomato to impress your friends, this is the one! It is essentially a green-when-ripe tomato that has a bit of surface color and marbling on the blossom end. The large, juicy tomatoes are perfect for salads or to top a big burger. They were extremely prolific and withstood record heat and drought, as a true captain would! The flavor will amaze you.

History: This unusual Green/Yellow/Pink tricolor potato leaf tomato came from an accidental cross between Lucky Cross and an unknown variety, and was stabilized by Millard Murdock of East Flat Rock, North Carolina (NC MU M). First appeared in the Seed Savers 2011 Yearbook, co-listed by Susan Anderson of Elgin, Texas (TX AN S) and Millard Murdock of East Flat Rock, North Carolina (NC MU M). I do not have many of these seeds left to give away.

I am happy to say that my seeds tested 99-100% germination within 2 weeks at a temp of 70°F in the spring. Excellent for beginners!

Propagation Method: From seed, sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before last spring frost. Sow 2-3 seeds per pot and thin to one plant per container. After four weeks, transplant seedlings to larger pots, and about 10 days before the last spring frost, begin hardening the plants to the outdoors. Transplant your plants to a sunny, highly composted location when soil temperatures are at least 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Stake or cage the plants for support and to prevent sprawling on the ground.
