The listing, Antique Shave mug has ended.
This is a rare find. My husband collects antique shaving items, and this is one he hates to let go. It is a Meriden Brittania shaving mug. This mug is well over 110 years old. The Meriden Brittania company was in existence from around 1847, and ceased to be an independent company in 1898. The hallmark on the mug, also in pic 6 enlarged to show detail, puts this mug long before that. The last pic shows the stamp from Meriden's merger with International Silver Company. The bottom of the mug is stamped "quadruple plate" and 211. As with any antique of this age, there is some wear to the silver, and obviously it was used. The mug reads "A clean shave face invites an embrace" I had an antique dealer look at this piece and he put it at around 1875. Happy Bidding & good luck!
