You can always take it to Best Buy or a local computer shop and asked them to run it to see what's wrong with it? That's what I did with my old hard drive. I found out that it was unable to be fixed.

Yes it worked. It was like a year back, pulled it out of a friends laptop that the screen wouldn't work. and no its never been drop. It has been sitting on my shelf for the whole time.
