I believe that if you don't return your equipment within a certain time, they will charge you for the cost of the equipment and you bought it whether you need it or not. This is what they do with Direct TV. Therefore, if you bought it, it stands to reason that you can do what you want with it. Otherwise you rent the Joey each month.
