So this takes one AAA battery? That means you don't need to plug it into the computer to charge it, just put in the battery, right?

I also would like to know if it comes with software, or if you can plug it in and add music to it without a special software program?

yes it requires one AAA battery. you would only have to connect to computer for uploading music.

you do not need any special software for adding music on this device.
plug and add music files and you good to go
