Questions & Comments
Do u know if this was a regular coin during its time?
It was. What's unusual about this coin however is that it's made of zinc. Coins made of zinc will either turn black after being in circulation for awhile, or white and chalky. During WWII, copper and nickel were used up so only the cheap, unwanted metals like zinc were left to make coins out of. Most of the French coins pre-1921 are silver. Another cool thing related to this coin is that during WWII France was divided into "the free French" who used the same designs as pre-war France, and the Axis-aligned Vichy state. The easiest way to tell them apart is the motto: Free France used the traditional "Liberte Egalite Fraternite", while Vichy used "Travail Familie Patrie". This particular coin comes from the Vichy state.
i paid $5 for it a couple of years ago. I would think it would be worth more than that now, but your guess is as good as mine, i have not had it appraised.
