Is the back flat or does it have those 6 little notches around the edge of the back watch cover ?

It does have six notches. But if you are asking if it can be pried off with a tool (like a knife) it can. I have one exactly like it that I wear sometimes and I have had the back off that one. Hope that answers your question. Good luckl.
