Still on it's envelope and letter enclosed(yes you get this too if you want it!) is an 8 cent olive green air mail stamp, canceled, with the transport plane. It is last stamp in the Transport Plane Series, the 8-cent airmail stamp was issued primarily to pay the new eight-cent-per-ounce domestic airmail rate that became effective March 26, 1944. It was printed in an olive green color. The eight-cent-per-ounce rate applied to airmail within the United States as well as mail to and from Alaska.

This letter is from a son to his mother in June 1946 from Virginia; he was in the Navy. The envelope is also an airmail envelope. If you enjoy paper ephemera and want to read the letter of a son to his mom, then you may like the letter within. Nice history in the World War II era. PLUS the stamp!
