Description

The listing, Solid Silver Turquoise Ring size 10.5 unisex stamped vintage has ended.

I got this from a lady who claimed when she bought the ring, it was described as Black Hills Gold. I finally found the marking/stamp (sun icon, STER, '82?). It has Indian carving design in the solid sterling setting and I guess the stone is turquoise. It is unisex, chunky, big, bold and very nice. If any of you experts out there know you jewelry I would love a more definite identification of this ring. It does not strike me as BHG but maybe made by Wheeler or one of the BHG makers. It has what looks like ducks on the side. Thanks ;D

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link outside of listia here but it does look like a turquoise. As for the grade of the turquoise I do have this site where it explains it it you would like :)

Nice, I don't think it would be considered black hills gold but could have been made by one of the same companies. The sun hallmark is pretty common in authentic native American jewelry, lots of variations of the sun. sun rays, half sun etc..... http://www.art-amerindien.com/signature_picto-hallmarks.htm

Sleeping Beauty turquoise... Does the 82 look like it might have had letters before it? Like a T or M? If so then it would be a Mexican sterling ring. The sun symbol was used by Mexican silversmiths as well as Native Americans. Some of the styles will be similiar because the Navajo and Zuni learned silversmithing from the Mexicans. So it can be understandably hard to differentiate between the two styles especially on older pieces

Wow! thanks so much for your input. I really had trouble making out what I've already shared. It is stamped at the bottom inner lip of the setting behind the stone so it is dark and small. Just can't make out anymore. I'm sure it must be an Indian ring and did not originate with BHG like the dealer was told. Thanks again ;D

The design is unusual for Native American but then again the design being different and detailed could make it more valuable if it were Native American. Have you unlocked the sun mark and area it may have been made?

You might want to look up Native American "sun" marks to determine tribe or maker. There are several. Just a suggestion and the stone may be called Robin Blue Sleepy Mine Turquoise. I haven't really had time to check on it but it is a beautiful & unusual designed ring.
