Description

The listing, Beautiful Red Weeping Willow Bottlebrush Tree! has ended.

Talk about a beautiful tree. My tree is over 20 years old, huge, and certainly the focal point of anyone's yard. Each seed pod actually contains HUNDREDS of seeds, so you have the opportunity here to plat yourself a Willow Bottle Brush Forest with these pods! Huge 6" Red blooms that attract butterflies and hummingbirds regularly! Grows like a tree out of a Dr. Seuss book! Very prolific here in West Coast Central Florida! Winner receives 10+ pods.

Some info from the County Extension office on Red Willow Bottlebrush:

The “bottlebrush” belongs to the genus Callistemon, which means “beautiful stamens”. There is no doubt that it is a perfect description of the bright red flower spikes. This small tree is native to Australia and belongs to the Myrtle family which includes Eucalyptus, guava, Surinam-cherry, Rose-apple and Myrtle. Hummingbirds frequently visit their flowers. The weeping bottlebrush has become a very popular garden specimen in Florida, California and Hawaii. The lemon bottlebrush, with leaves that have a citrus scent when crushed, is also used extensively in Florida, more commonly in north Florida than in the southern part of in the State. The showy bottlebrush is more appreciated because of the longer flower spikes that can be up to six inches in length and have gold tips on the stamens.

Thanks and best of luck!

Is there a lot of maintenance as far as falling leaves, flowers, etc.? Also, does it attract bees or wasps in addition to butterflies and hummingbirds?

Thanks for the info....I love adding clolor to our yard. :)

Not really deciduous down here in FL, more of an evergreen year round. There is a small amount of leaf debris, but i never need to even rake it breaks down as fast as it falls since the leaves are very slender. These flowers will attract any wildlife that can detect color or pollen! Just about anyone looking for some pollen or nectar is going to come around when these guys are in bloom. My advice would be not to worry about it, if you are concerned about the bees and wasps. from my experience, they're much more interested in the flowers then anything around the tree. I have my son (and myself when i was younger) climbing ours and we've never bothered the bees and they've never bothered us. Plus its a much welcomed retreat for pollinators that are working hard for us all year, so its a nice treat for them

I know down in FL when it gets down to the 30's and 20's my mature one in the yard (as well as neighbors younger ones) they don't flinch or seem to mind at all. I do know however that these guys are warmer loving trees, but with that being said, if you were to pot her or greenhouse her for a year or two, just until the roots gets large enough to establish, then plant in ground during spring to allow roots to grow deep through the season, I honestly think she would make a wonderful addition to your yard. Hope that helps. Thanks for checking out my auction!
