INDOOR SEEDING/TRANSPLANTING:
Sow indoors in late April or up to one month prior to transplanting outdoors. Germinates between 80-90°F (27-32°C). Grow seedlings at 75°F (24°C). Reduce water and temperature for a week before transplanting to harden seedlings. When the weather is frost-free, transplant to 6 inch hills with 3' spacing in rows 6' apart.

HARVEST:
Harvest when tendril closest to the fruit turns brown and dries. Avoid over-watering as the fruit matures to prevent splitting or cracking.

Yes, you can grow water melons in containers. Just be aware that this can result in smaller fruit size. Since this is an 'ice-box' sized melon, they're already petite so you may not notice too much of a difference. You can maximize the melon size if you thin to just 1 or 2 melons per plant during fruiting. Choose a pot that's 5-gallon or larger and plant one melon per pot so they do not compete for resources. Watermelons grow rapidly and require plenty of water. Make sure that the container you will be growing watermelons in has enough drainage holes and once the vine starts flowering, feed with water soluble fertilizer once a week or a granulated slow release fertilizer once a month per sq footage instructions. I grew this variety on a trellis my first year (planted in-ground) and it bore full-sized fruit. Just be sure to add a support hammock when the fruit gets the size of a volley ball.
