When lightning strikes a barren desert, there's nothing to hit but sand. And what happens when you heat sand to a gazillion degrees, boys and girls? That's right, it makes glass. Actually, it makes small fulgurites, which are sand that has been fused into often-tubular glass shapes. (Glass, but sand colored, and not the Sweet Home Alabama variety. This isn't Hollywood, after all.) Yours will measure approx 1" to 1-1/2" long and be in a plastic box along with a description of the source of that particular fulgurite.
