Description

The listing, MYSTERY medieval coin, German State! has ended.

Although I am usually very detailed about my coins, I couldn't for the life of me figure this one out, as far as a more exact year and/or state. So you get what I got from the coin dealer I bought it from, he's the one who narrowed it down to a coin from a Medieval German state. Just for curiosity's sake, if anybody out there knows more about it please let me know. If it's worth thousands of $$ then don't! :) THANKS! :D

Dumb question, but how do you know it's German?

Not a dumb question at all and I wish i could answer it better, but as my description states it's the coin dealer i bought it from who narrowed it down to a medieval German state based (probably) on the size of the coin and the symbols on the obverse and reverse.

Are there any words on the coin? I tried to look at an enlarged photo, but that doesn't help a lot. I am a German teacher and might help you if there is something written on it.

oh, thanks Karen! It would help if there were any words on it! Unfortunately I looked at it closeup myself and there are nothing but some random designs :( It looks like a coat of arms on one side and a flower on the back. I do appreciate your offer though! God bless all teachers and thank you for the patience you have with our children.

if you check it against the coins listed in coin collector's books it might help to look through the coins of the ex German states that existed prior to 1700, although that's about 300...I didn't have the patience for it.

forgot do you know the wieght and diamater or the metal if it is hand hammered or anything else so i could have a better idea of what i am searching for

it is slightly smaller than a penny and lighter. I don't have anything sensitive enough to weigh it with. Definitely hand hammered. I couldn't take any pictures clearer than the ones you see, but whoever wins it can put it under a bright light and observe it with a magnifying glass and see a lot more of the details on it. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Hi, Just wanted to say that it is a beautiful coin! Could it be that it is just a medal of some sort? You know to commemorate something. Just wondering.

It actually looks more Egyptian to me. Could that be it?
