The bird house in the pictures is showing front, side and back of bird house, and this is what you will receive. This gourd was grown by myself. Approximate measurements for this gourd are: Length - 11 inches Around the middle - 20 inches Middle hole for bird entry is approx. 1.1 inch
Great question, yes it has 2 small holes in the neck area (see pic) and a sturdy bendable wire is attached so you can adjust to your needs. At the bottom of the gourd is 4 small drainage holes, so if rain comes or a storm, any water that gets inside can drain away. Hope this helps with your question.
Just a update.. this is the last gourd b/house I will be able to list for the moment. I have others that are in various stages of drying out. This can take 6-12 months to complete. So I will be back with others as soon as possible. Thanks for all your great questions/comments both on here and direct messaging. Happy Bidding!
got a question, I found some old gourds, tried to paint them but paint will not stay on them.... do u have any idea why? they are old and are not strong enough for bird houses but would be pretty just painted.
Hi Dot, do they already have a sealer on them? If so, you would have to do a light sanding to remove all traces. This might take you a little while to do. If they are not cleaned already you have to remove the outer skin, I use soap and water and a big bucket. I let them soak for 4 hours or more with a wet towel over the top and sometimes have to weight them down with a heavy object such as a brick/stone. This will loosen the exterior skin. It will become flaky and a little gross. You then have to do alot of scrubbing, I use steel wool and a scrubber like you use to do the dishes. All very labor intensive and takes patience. Once this is done, they have to dry again, so I usually leave them to dry for 2-3 days before attempting to do anything else to them. I'm not sure if yours are already cleaned or not, so if you can give me more info, I will try and give you some additional help.
thx, Sarah for all the info..... I don't think anything has been done to them. After seeing the process it takes to get gourds looking like this one you have listed, you deserve LOTS of credits. :) thx for listing this one....
Great to do when you want to take your frustrations out on something lol.. If nothing has been done to them, try soaking one for a while and see if you see any materials come off, it may be green/black looking.. looks worse than it is, its just the skin. If they are already cleaned, it might be the paint you are using. I use acrylic or wood paints and sealers you can get them from your local craft store.
