Description

The listing, Penny 1972 D Odd front has ended.

I am not a coin collector and know nothing about values of such. But a penny is a penny and some say pennies are from heaven. Well, I can only say I received this penny by chance and I am not sure what is wrong with it except it just isn't right!! It looks to be a 1972 D. A bunch of the letters and outer edges are missing and details in the front on Lincoln. Even part of the date is messed up. The back of the penny looks like any other penny but surely not the front. Then there is all this black on the front that I have no clue to what that is either. Maybe the penny making machine grinded to a halt on this penny but I don't know as a person may have done it for some unknown reason but I still can't figure out why this penny is the way it is. So, I am going to list it and maybe someone wants it. It may be a lucky penny or maybe just a special penny from heaven. No buyers remorse for the messed up looking penny. Well, I never heard of a brokage error but it sure looked like something grinded to a halt on the front of it.

Well a brockage refers to a type of error coin in which one side of the coin has the normal design and the other side has a mirror image of the same design impressed upon it. I personally think it may be a grease strike, meaning that the planchet had grease on it when struck with the design. Or it could be a wrong planchet. Meaning it was struck on a planchet made for a different coin. In this case most likely a foreign country.

I wouldn't think a US mint would use a foreign planchet which I have never heard that word before nor really know how coins are made except I assume they all come off a press of some sort massed produced for our pockets. I haven't a clue what went wrong with it except if a train rolled over it it would be smashed...lol. It is just a messed up penny is all I know but might be interesting to collect.

The US mint actually makes coins for other countries all the time. It has happened before that a blank coin for another country has gotten into the area for pennies and has gotten stamped with it. Again, just a thought.

Maybe then that is what happened as I surely don't have a clue.
