They do need batteries.. and the bands on both are about 3 to 3 1/2" per band section.. totaling 6 to 6 1/2" not counting the space the watch faces themselves take up.. and that is approximate for each watch. The faces themselves are set into the designer metal adding an additional 1" to 1 1/2" on the man's and about 3/4" on the woman's. I hope this helps.. let me know if you have any more questions..
