since 2009 these have been more applied named the Native America Dollars. They still honor Sacagawea on the Obverse but each following year there is a different reverse to commemorate different periods or events of Native Americans in the History of the United States. The selected reverse design for the 2014 Dollar depicts a Native American man offering a pipe and his wife offering provisions of fish, corn, roots, and gourds. The background includes a stylized image of the face of William Clark’s compass highlighting “NW” indicating the Corps of Discovery’s journey through the Northwest. The design is intended to symbolize the unity of families in offering aid, support, and friendship to those in the expedition.

Not many people know about the change from Sacagawea to Native American Dollars because it was advertised as much as say the State Quarters or the America the Beautiful Quarter Series. I just like sharing the information for the few extra Credits I might get or to help others learn about the hobby.
