Description

The listing, Shade tree seeds has ended.

This is the catalpa tree. This auction is for 30+ seeds, harvested from a beautiful, healthy, mature tree. They are wonderful broad leaf shade trees. I have personally grown them in the windy, dry west Texas weather and in the moist soil of east Texas. They are hearty trees that make a wonderful addition to any property.

How and when would plant the seeds?

it depends where you live. I usually start these in a small pot in the house but you must watch closely as the roots grow fast. as soon as the roots are established I plant outside after the last frost, or long enough before the first frost so it has time to root. still time this year i would think.

I love the tree not just for it's size and shade but for the cataulpa worms that wrap themselves in the leaves. They are great for fishing. If I miss this one, please list others..lots of interest.

the worms are only found in the southeast...they are excellent fishing bait. the trees i had in west texas never had any. I just love the big leaves and the beautiful flowers.

If this one is planted in the south, will it have the worms for fishing?

most in the south, below the mason dixon line do get worms unless you treat them to keep the moths away

Not true, these trees will grow in ND. I looked it up to make sure. You just wont have to worry about the moths or the worms.
