I believe you actually can. Friends have told me they have. But I'm not even 100% sure I ever did on origin.

Everything I've been reading is very mixed, but I know for sure you can play offline with this game/code. And if whoever wins finds they can't go online with it, I am willing to give my account info, as I do not use it. (The email attached with it isn't active anymore, but the account still works)
