To answer some questions for you, The nest of a humming bird is actually quite small and is mostly made of webs and grass. The top of the nest being fully open resembling a very small bowl while being so small that after the babies have spent a short time alive the mother hummingbird cannot even fit into the nest with them. So most likely the holes you see on this man made bird house are to aid in the feeding and caretaking of the small hummingbirds that will be living inside.
