The Ponderosa Pine is a native throughout western North America. It is one of the major timber tree species. In the landscape, Ponderosa Pine has a broad pyramidal form when young, developing a rounded crown with age. Needles are dark green, very long and borne in bundles of three or sometimes two. It is used limitedly in landscape. It prefers a moist, well-drained loam soil, though it is found growing in many different soil types. Fairly tolerant of drought and alkaline soils.
