review-“Anyone who goes into a study of angels with a high view of God will come away with an even higher view.”
David Jeremiah closes his first chapter with these words. His book gives a comprehensive study of angels. But even more, it focuses on God (though still teaching on angels) from beginning to end.
This is by far the best book I’ve read on angels.
Jeremiah keeps his priorities in line throughout. He uses primarily Biblical text to teach (adding a few helpful outside texts and acknowledging when he uses them). We learn of angels’ presence, appearance, worship, roles, sounds, etc. There’s even one chapter on “Hell’s Angels,” but coverage is minimal, tucked away toward the end (and with all of God’s greatness that we learn in un-fallen angels, that is their proper place).
Jeremiah even adds a touch of creative flair to his presentation of the text, making understanding richer (without overreading into it). His writing style is smooth, smart but not bookish.
This is the first of David Jeremiah’s works I’ve read, and I was thoroughly delighted, right down to the appendixes of Scriptural references (eight pages!) and helpful subject index.
What I took away is summarized well in his final chapter: “That angels truly love the Lord, and will always love to serve him… and so will I.”
A GREAT read.
