Strictly speaking, this is NOT the fastest growing tree in the world. The Ear Bean trees planted in my Grandparents yard in FL grow 50' branches every year, which get trimmed back to the main trunk every autumn to restart the process the next Spring. Both trees are over 50 years old, and, still going strong. They are considered weed trees in FL, and, are native to India.

I suppose its called that because it grows up to 12 feet TALL in one season, not outward. Everything I read about them said the same thing. If you want to argue with someone, get ahold of wikipedia because I didn't ask for anyoneo opinion.
