The listing, Magnolia Tree Seeds (6 seeds!) has ended.
Winner will receive 6 magnolia tree seeds taken from the seed pod from last season. This is a huge healthy tree in my mother-in-laws yard. The magnolia is a very popular ornamental tree in the south ;-)
Here is how to handle your seeds:
1 Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and put the seeds in the bowl. This helps loosen the outer seed coat. Soak the seeds overnight or for several days.
2 Put a colander in the sink to prevent seeds from falling down the drain. Gently wash the magnolia seeds with warm, soapy water to remove the outer coat. Use a hardware cloth to rub the coat off the seeds, if desired.
3 Fill a container with water and drop the magnolia seeds in. Discard floating seeds; they are not usually viable and will probably not germinate.
4 Spread the magnolia seeds out on a paper towel. Allow the seeds to dry overnight.
5 Fill a plastic bag with peat moss. Cover the magnolia seeds with moist peat moss. Seal the bag.
6 Store the magnolia seeds in the refrigerator at 32 to 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not put the seeds in the freezer.
7 Leave the seeds in the refrigerator for at least 60 days. Remove the seeds when ready to plant.
