Description

The listing, 100 "Hens & Chicks" Succulent Seeds (must see pics!) has ended.

Easy to grow and maintain. Limitless creative planting options. Hardy, fast growing, drought resistant, indoor or outdoor, pretty ground cover or use as a unique potted accent in any garden or yard.
Some of the pics are of the ones I have grown myself. I love Succulents, I've been planting them for years. They are very interesting looking and super easy to maintain. You can plant them virtually anywhere, regardless of the climate. Most will survive frost, but I suggest you cover them beforehand to be safe.
100 seeds will cover up to one square yard if planted directly into the ground. However it's best to spread them out a few inches apart, each seed will grow an individual plant and as that plant begins to mature, it starts to multiply. Giving each seed room to grow and make "chicks" will definitely cover twice as much ground space. I plant them in various places, in the ground and in pots. I like to put them in unique and random containers and give them as gifts. Everyone always LOVES them! They are an AWESOME decorative plant, and will grow indoors (with proper amounts of sunlight) or outdoors (they love being outside).
The seeds are a mix of the many varieties shown above. All different colors and sizes, depending on how they are planted and the growing conditions, which is pretty general. No need to take special measures, they are a very hearty plant. They are the easiest plant that I know of to propagate! The last 2 pics is of one seed I planted 2mos ago, just to give you an idea of the growth rate. Also, they all start out green in color, but as they get bigger and start to have chicks, their colors change and become more vibrant.

They can grow just about anywhere, and as long as you make sure to till the ground before planting (mixing the combo of regular dirt and sand evenly). Mixing potting soil in the ground is a good idea regardless of where you plant them. They thrive in well drained soil, although they also grow fine in clay-like soil too(just slower). Be sure to cover during the snow season :)

I Love these! I have a few waiting to go in a brass pot. And HEY! You have them growing in an old tackle box! I have that same tackle box! Bought it at a garage sale a few yrs back for $2 lol. But I'm using it as a sewing kit and its perfect for that too. My mom lives in Tx and has large rocks with big natural holes all over that would be cool to plant these inside the holes! Thanks for listing these lovely pics! And if I must say, you handled Kevin very tactfully. Only someone like him would feel misled....... F&W

lol, Thank you :) I appreciate your supportive input. The holes in the rock at your mom's would be a great place to plant them, awesome idea! You know what? Listia is not unlike a mixed bag of seeds, ya never know what sort seed you're gonna get! You seem like a good one to me :)

How long do they take to mature?
May 16th, 2015 at 10:46:19 AM PDT by
Original
It depends on many different variables. That is a question with many answers. Msg me or reply on comments & tell me how you plan on planting them. I'll be able to give you the most accurate info if I know the growing circumstances.

Are the seeds separated by the type and color?
May 6th, 2015 at 6:54:49 AM PDT by
Original
good question! no, they aren't separated. it's a variety pack of different colors & sizes. under the right conditions, some can get really big. I'll try and get a pic of my largest and post it today :)

Anyone worried about separation issues? I always put the seeds in starter pots then when you know what they are place them where you want.

I understand however my intent was to be able to replicate the picture shown by planting seeds in by color to create the beautiful main picture shown. Since seeds are just mixed it would be impossible to do so. I sure they are quality seeds but am no longer interested in a mixed seed bag. Jut curios you show a picture of each type of plant with the name below them, do you know for sure that winner will be receiving each type?
May 9th, 2015 at 1:38:30 PM PDT by
Original
Yes, I'm sure. I only posted the pictures of plants that would best represent the seeds up for auction. Of course results will vary depending on the quality of soil and care but that's true for anything you plant. Buying the seeds individually to replicate the 1st picture is your best bet. It will be more costly, but the results can be amazing. I would suggest visiting Etsy.com and the shop you'll wanna look up is AllooAboutooSeeds. They sell specifics types of Succulent seeds separately and they are a high quality grower.

Great auction and just gorgeous.....Will they grow in Washington State...We have a lot of rain and cloudy days.
May 5th, 2015 at 8:39:41 AM PDT by
Original
Thank you, and yes. My suggestion would be to plant them in an area that gets the most sun during the day and where the rain water is able to drain properly & doesn't puddle. As long as the soil has good drainage, they will do really well, despite getting a lot of rain. I would plant them in the summer so that the plants are well established by fall :)

The pictures are to show the different varieties of plants that are actually in of the mixed bag of seeds listed in this auction. I apologize for any confusion and for the fact that you felt mislead. My intention was never to mislead or "trick" anyone, let alone you Kevin.

Diana, you actually live in the same city in Wisconsin as I do. So yes, they do grow here.I have them planted in my yard and they come back every year and spread. Very low maint. plants. :)

I am planning my first herbal garden in the front of my house and thinking this would be a fabulous border to at little patio area where I am thinking about planting Feverfew to keep away pesky bugs. Thoughts? You sound like you have a lot of gardening expertise.
May 13th, 2015 at 9:36:58 AM PDT by
Original
I think that would be a great idea to use them as a border for the herbs! They stay low to the ground so they won't block the sun to the other plants. Great idea!

Are these cat friendly?
May 11th, 2015 at 9:52:34 AM PDT by
Original
Yes, we have a pet rabbit and two hens that love to eat them if they aren't kept away from the plants. So it's safe to report, they are pet friendly. Although, urine or otherwise will damage & possibly kill the succulent, especially if it's still small (we also have 3 dogs). Once they are large enough, they are fine but usually show signs of burn marks if they are pee-d on. Great question, thank you for asking :)
