The listing, Nicotiana rustica seeds, tobacco, ornamental plant, gardening, new age, wiccan has ended.
I have a heap of Nicotiana rustica seeds for an enthused gardener. I have not counted how many seeds there are or how much they weigh but what you see in the picture is what I am offering - definitely enough to start a small plantation. Remember that these grow up to six feet tall.
Please, note that in the picture the seeds are magnified. In real life they are tiny, smaller than mustard seeds.
Nicotiana rustica is not the common tobacco, its nicotine content is 9%. The nicotine content of Nicotiana tabacum, common tobacco, is only 1-3%.
This makes a beautiful annual ornamental plant and you can make non-toxic pesticide out of the leaves for an organic garden in the end of the season.
Native Americans use N. rustica in their religious ceremonies, in Vietnam it is known as Thuoc lao and smoked after meals, in Russia it is called mahorka and smoked instead of regular tobacco and in South America it is used by the shamans for entheogenic purposes.
To start your N. rustica place seeds, several inches apart, on rich soil in a pot by a sunny window. The seeds sprout at 70º F so keep them warm, and keep them moist. I have covered my pots with plastic wrap so that the moisture doesn't escape and I water them with a spray bottle so that the seeds don't get buried too deep in the soil.
