Correct it is not. Example if you have a modem for you cable provider that is not wireless this adapter would make your home wireless up to 300 feet. What this wireless adapter does is it makes your internet a wireless. My brother used it with a modern he bought and his hotspot on his phone and made his home a wifi, and he plays alot of role play games. But he also has unlimited data plan. I wouldn't recommend your hot spot unless you do... lol
