Description

The listing, American Beautyberry seeds 25ct. has ended.

Callicarpa

Beautyberry is one shrub that's really earned its common name. In fall, the plant becomes a showstopper thanks to its clusters of small violet-purple fruits. The bright color stands out, especially after the plant loses its leaves. The fruits develop from summer's clusters of small pink flowers and may attract several species of birds to your yard.

Beautyberry blooms on fresh growth, so if you need to prune it, the best time to do so is late winter or early spring. In the coldest areas of its range, it's sometimes grown like a perennial in that the stems die back to the ground every year and are replaced by new shoots in the spring.

This adaptable shrub blooms well in full sun or part shade and is relatively drought tolerant.
Back in the day branches with leaves crushed a bit were placed in the bridles and saddles of horse to deter mosquitoes and gnats.
I made a tincture out of the leaves and let sit for a month then added water in a sprayer and sprayed the front porch in which it did chase away the bugs.
People make jam out of the berries but I leave most of the seeds on the bush for the Mockingbirds and Cardinals. They love them. So do the butterflies and the bees when they bloom
All Listia rules apply.. These are proven viable seeds and will not give you your credits back if they do not sprout for you. It could be your soil, bugs ate them or some unforeseen problem. Sorry to be that way but someone wanted their credits back for only having some of my seeds in the ground for 4 days..

What COLOR!!! These are a gorgeous fuchsia

They are pretty kind of a cross fuchsia and magenta. The jelly made from them is really pretty. It holds its color.. The leaves are the best for my granddaughter when she goes out to play. She will grab a handful of the large leaves and rub them all over for gnats, horseflys and skeeters.. I grow this all over my property because the mockingbirds love it as much as I do..

We have mockingbirds only occasionally ...this might keep them around more. Always trying to attract more birds. Mostly looking for hummingbird plants.

They have a pretty large root system and would root bind very fast in a container..
