I was living on Staten Island, ready to move back upstate with my children. My son and I watched the Towers on fire and smoking, then crumble, from the Staten Island Ferry terminal. I had dated an NYPD officer, so I knew many who were there. I watched all of the remembrance shows this past Sunday, and it brought it all back. It's sad that it takes a ten year memorial to bring back to us what never should have left. The entire country was covered in American Flags after 9/11 and then slowly disappeared. We need to bring that sense of togetherness and pride in country back again.

In Remembrance of September 11th:
Eternal loving God, Our Father, as we remember the horrific events of 911, we celebrate the men and women who continue to give of themselves to protect us and stop the violence in our midst and around the world. At the same time that our service men and women are protecting us, we pray for Your watchful eye to guide them and bring them home safely. We also pray for their families to have all of their needs met while they are meeting the needs of others.
We pray for our intelligence agencies to be aware of and have access to current information that aid in making timely decisions that keep us safe. We ask for your divine hand to cover the airways such that innocent people are not at risk when traveling. We further ask that You would bring health and well-being to those who put their lives on the line as first responders to the tragic scenes where the attacks took place.
Believing that You desire us to live in the peace that comes from your presence, we ask You to heal the hearts of families and friends who still grieve the loss of loved ones on that fateful day. Thank You for hearing and answering our prayer for peace, protection, and hope for a new day.
We ask in Jesus Name. AMEN

Nice auction!
Mine isn't a firefighter story, but the horrible events of 9-11, sealed the fate of my youngest son. Clay was only 16 years old at the time, a junior in high school. We were getting ready for the day, my husband and I were both Letter Carriers, getting ready for work, and Clay was sitting at the kitchen counter, taking his vitamins and eating the hot breakfast I always sent him to school with. All of us were there in the kitchen, enjoying our daily morning camaraderie, when suddenly the phone rang. It was my son best friend/ex-cousin from his dad's former marriage, calling to tell us to turn on the television. He was yelling, and near tears, saying a plane had flown into the TWC! We hung up and turned on the morning news, only to be stunned by the events unfolding. We all watched in horrified disbelief ... then, when the second plane hit, we were assured that this was not an accident, but an attack! Listening to the newscasts, we all got emotional. My son jumped up and yelled, "I'm going to war"! His father tried to calm him down, and told him that at his age, the Military would not allow him to enlist. Whats more, he assured him, if there was a war, it would surely not be fought on the ground, but in the air. It would surely be over in a matter of weeks. Sadly, that was not the case. Clay graduated in 2003, and enlisted in the Army immediately. Eventually, 6 months after he was deployed to Iraq, he was killed in action, bu an IED. That was 5 years ago, and it still feels like it happened only yesterday ... I miss him so very much!

God Bless you, and your family there is nothing that can explain the pain of losing a child, I lost My brother, And the the spark that my mother always had in her eyes, went out that day, i only saw it one more time and it was just minutes before she passed away, so i knew she had seen the child she always called the twinkle of her eye. I know it is hard, but know that your son died doing what he felt he was called to do for his country right from the beginning. Again God Bless.
Great item.

Spetember 11th,2001 is a day that I can account my whole day in photographic memory. I was on my way to work & stopped by my parents to visit and have a cup of coffee. I was in the kitchen with my mom and my dad was in his recliner watching tv, and he said something about a plane hitting the world trade center & that it was probably an amateur pilot or something. But then when the 2nd plane hit he screamed my moms name & we run into the living room because we thought something happened to him, but when we looked @ the tv and seen what was happening I remember looking at my dad and tears were running down his face (I had never seen my dad cry prior to that) & his exact words were "it's terrorists" so my mom was frantic & crying calling all my sisters & brothers. That day all 9 of my parents children gathered @ their home and just cried watching the after effects of that day, and realizing how life is taken for granted! I will say that's a day that changed my outlook on life forever! R.I.P to the many people who gave their lives on that awful day!!!

i had just enlisted in the Marines, and had yet to tell my parents... enough said. Try explaining that to a mother... after having to watch on tv what those people were actually capable of.... It was terrifying.

Thank you so very much for enlisting in the Marines. I can understand your mothers fears but the Marines can help you better your life in so many ways.

I was a young GI in S. Korea. It was shortly after 11pm - my Gramma called me and asked if I was okay. I turned my TV on to see the 2nd plane crash into the building.
Our post was alerted and we were locked down working 24 hour operations for 4 months.
There wasn't a soldier in the military that didn't volunteer to go to the "front".
It was an honor to see so many brave people WILLINGLY jump into action.
My regret is not being in country to mourn with my fellow Americans.
I also wish I could have seen everybody unify the way we heard they did <3
Thanks for the opportunity to share :)

Oh, my goodness silverfarr, my son graduated in 2003 as well and immediately went into the army. He was a mine sweeper, so he was one of the soldiers who went out first to find IEDs and disable them. He lost some friends over there, including 2 roommates. One of his roommates died when a bomb exploded in a car he was checking. My son survived, he did get injured when his vehicle went over a mine, injuring his shoulder. I wonder if they knew each other?
