The listing, Prickly Pear Cactus Pad has ended.
You are bidding on the pad in the front with the little offshoot. This cactus does not appear to have the spikes like other varieties. Some people grow these to eat (google how to prepare prickly pear cactus, it is said to have a lot of health benefits). This is a rooted pad, so you will just need to put it in your soil and it should keep growing bigger and producing more offshoots. I will ship this with enough padding to survive the trip, and I'll ship it to you for free.

Is this the type of prickly that produces edible fruit?
Yes, but I think they have to get much bigger to do so. I live in Oregon, so this is an inside plant due to winter weather (snow) so my cactus will probably not get big enough to see fruit anytime soon.
thanks :) Fanned & bidding. I won 2 of these in Listia and killed them from overwatering. I try not to but they get so dry I get tempted to water. Lesson learned lol
I looked back on the old posting I won this particular cactus from and this is the information she had listed.... This cactus could be considered HEIRLOOM as it is direct planting from a very old stock from West Texas. The main plant these came from is at least twenty years old or older. They grow well indoors with plenty of sun in warm room, solarium or outdoors where it doesn't go below 32 degrees for more than a few days. They grow to be huge trees if left to themselves. Prune or even cut down and they will grow back. The fruits have little HAIR THORNS take care still when picking and cleaning. Just stick the starts into sandy soil, keep mildly damp. Start will root and your cactus is on it's way. Take small leaves off when you want to eat, wash carefully scrape off nubs and bumps. Slice diagonally into very thin slices, saute in pan with a little coconut oil and lime juice or lemon and onion if you choose. Once the color has changed they are ready to eat. If they are too slimey and there is a lot of gelatin use a screen and rinse till slime is rinsed off. Then reheat in pan for a couple more minutes. Saute with meat or shrimp virtually anything you'd like. The smaller and thinner the better, I think. You can also boil first and strain. Then fry. They have a semi sour taste once cooked. Great for lowering blood pressure and great for diabetics: Daily intake of 100g to 500g of nopal cactus divided in three servings is the recommended dose for diabetes.
