The listing, Caribbean Red Habanero has ended.
Auction is for 10 seeds of a Red Caribbean Habanero. The heat is fierce, there's no denying it but it is the staple of Jamaican jerk recipes and Trinidad's cuisine. Caribbean Red pepper is arguably the hottest of the habaneros grown today. The Scoville chart lists them at just over 400,000 units. They are not for the faint of heart.
They grow well in all zones and pretty tolerant of dry soil. They seem to grow best in a sandy loam mix for good drainage. Best handled with plastic or rubber gloves. The heat really resides in the seeds and membranes and if you watch any cooking shows you will see most cooks remove them before putting them in any dishes. But if you are into some healthy heat, this is your baby!! But this does fall outside of the three levels of heat, which are,
1. This isn't anything to worry about.
2. This is just tasty.
and
3. Why the heck are you eating it!!!!!!!
