Description

The listing, "The Handmaid's Tale" has ended.

"The Brilliant #1 Bestseller in paperback, 395 pages." "In the world of the near future, who will control women's bodies?" "Offred (of Fred, her male owner) is a handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable.

Offred can remember the years before, when she lived and made love with her husband Luke; when she played with and protected her daughter; when she had a job, money of her own, and access to knowledge. But all of that is gone now...everything has changed." "In rich, pure language, in a story so powerful it will move you to tears, Margaret Atwood has drawn a chilling portrait of a future that may not be so very far away." Made into a major motion picture starring Robert Duval, Faye Dunaway, Aiden Quinn and Natasha Richardson. Terrific movie and an even better book. Free Shipping! Good luck to you! :))

Thanks for commenting, it is a fabulous story. As you haven't bid I assume you've read it too. Did you also see the movie? Also excellent, though alas, movies are never as good as the book, though I enjoyed the movie too: stumbled across it one night, watched it and loved it, went out of my way to get the book and that was even better; when the movie appeared on cable I watched it again and virtually never watch the same movie twice, but did this one because it was so good. I'll fan you back.

I actually haven't read it; it sounds really interesting though. I'm just waiting until the last minute to bid (I learned everything I know from ebay, lol;)

I understand perfectly, having learned at the same place. Truthfully, I hope I do get more than 100 credits for it because with paying shipping there's: postage of $2.41, packaging, very costly gas to the post office and back and those things are worth a lot more than 100 credits, which don't buy very much, when the cost of the book is added to everything else. I may stop auctioning books, it's costing me rather than helping me. I belong to two good book swap clubs, can sell my used and new books on Amazon at a decent price in most cases, etc. Listia is making less and less sense to me. If one could open their auctions at at least 200 or more credits, without having to pay an absolutely usurious number of credits to Listia for the privilege, staying here might make more sense. I have a ton of good things to sell, but not if I lose my shirt. I'll email Listia about it, can't hurt. Hope you win this book, it's outstanding! :))
