LILY OF THE NILE
Agapanthus, meaning LOVE FLOWER
Entreating the eyes of royal queens such as the beautiful, Cleopatra. . .for thousands of years this short tuft of green arching leaves filled with long stalks of intensely royal blue (lily like) flowers, lined the banks of the ancient Nile River.
During the 17th century the 'true blue' flower made it way to Europe and quickly earned a special place in formal gardens and green houses.
Though not actually from the Lily family, and not to be confused with the sacred Water Lily, this exotic bloom, also known as the African Blue Lily, derived its name "Agapanthus" from the Greek words: αγάπη (agape) = love and άνθος (anthos) = flower, or, "LOVE FLOWER."
