♥Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost into individual pots that can be directly transplanted to the garden. Germinate at 55-60 F. Seedlings emerge in 7-21 days depending on variety. For best results, Sow seeds outdoors, in early spring or late fall directly where they are to grow. Since seed is very fine and small, handle carefully to ensure even Sowing. Plants grown from seed will bloom the second year. Established plants tend to self-Sow. Seeds need light to germinate; do not cover with medium.
How to Grow Poppy (Oriental)
Plant in full sun to light shade in well drained soil. Plants prefer soil that is not rich and thrive even in poor soils as long as these are well-drained. Keep well watered during dry spells. Plants do not like transplanting. Taller plants may need support if grown in open exposed windy areas. Space 1.5-2'apart.
