in order to ship to alaska or hawaii you have to go through customs. which means to ship a $20.00 it will cost roughly $100.00.

Perhaps you are only part wrong? I once sent flowers to someone in Hawaii, and while the shipping was more expensive than the standard rate, it did not have to go through customs. The rate of shipping the flowers to Hawaii was only $20.00 though. Certainly not $100.
