The listing, 1970 Topps #231 LUIS TIANT (Twins) - legendary pitcher! has ended.
This is an original vintage 1970 Topps #231 LUIS TIANT baseball card.
Best known for his time with the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians, Tiant is pictured here with the Minnesota Twins.
The son of a Negro League star, Tiant had the benefit of playing in an integrated MLB. A 21 game winner in 1968 with the Cleveland Indians with an amazing 1.60 ERA, Tiant was amazingly shut-out of Cy young voting as Denny McLain won unanimously after a 31 win season, despite Tiant's ERA being lower and Tiant having more strikeouts. His fortunes really took off, however, after joining the Boston Red Sox (1971-1978), winning 20+ games 3 separate times and compiling a 122-81 record with Boston. He won 229 games for his career, registering a fantastic 3.30 ERA and striking out over 2400 batters. He is currently the subject of a grass-roots effort to get him elected into the Hall of Fame.
Card is crease free and has only minimal vintage wear, should grade in excellent condition.
