There is a spot for a large watch type battery. I don't know if that would do the "back-up" thing or not.

Hi, I read that the space on the bottom with the black cover does hold a back-up battery. How long did you use it for? What type of alarm is it( altho I could use my iPhone) a Buzzer, or other sounds?
Did it seem to work well with other items plugged in? Thanks! It is really cool! Oh do you have the original directions??

It is a buzzer. I used it for about 2 months. It worked fine with other stuff plugged in. Don't think I have the book, will look for it though.
