They're found in the sewing section, so I guess something to do with sewing. I've had them for years (probably from my mother or grandmother)

I would guess that they would work for any sewing project, but am not 100% certain. I'm a full time glass artist and know nothing about fabric or sewing :)

No, they are not real bone, they are plastic. They're called "bone rings" by the manufacturer.
