The listing, "Grandma" Ceramic Pie Vent or Decoration has ended.

I believe this is a pie vent. You know, one of those things you put in the top of your pie to let the steam out while it is baking so you don't have a soggy top crust. She is in perfect condition. She could be used just as a decoration. She is 4" high and there are vent holes in the top of her delicious pie! She is very clean so I don't think she has been used as a vent, just as decoration.

So,I would put her on top of the pie before I put it in the oven? I've never made a pie,but am wanting to get more into cooking,and baking. Thanks.

You would make a hole in the top of the crust the size of the bottom of her and place her in it. It allows the steam to escape from pies that have a lot of moisture so that the crust doesn't get soggy. I've baked a lot of pies and have never used a vent but a lot of people like too. Pies never last more than a day at my house though! lol
