This stately plant dressed in a multitude of pinkish-purple jewels reaches an approximate height of 8' and is about 5' wide. Known as a weed to most people except the Scots {think Braveheart} I have found it makes a great protective defense against stray animals and humans who don't mind letting their dogs go potty on your lawn as they walk them. Also it is a great deterrent from would be criminals. It is beautiful a somewhat shaped like a Christmas tree. Decorated with lights it is a sight to see in the evening on a warm, balmy night. This easy care plant has very few requirements. They are:
~ Water when branches start to droop or get weepy
~ Accepts all sols except heavy clay and sand.
~Needs to be dead headed when seed silk starts to show unless you want them to reproduce willy nilly. USE GLOVES as they are pricky as their name suggests. Grab a bag and snip away. It's fast and simple.
And that's it ! They are great in bouquets, the flowers sprinkled in soap base, the prickers for getting slivers out.
They are also VERY attractive to pollinators.
