Gold-tone base metal, it is definitely costume jewelry.

I just went to get it to double check. It is definitely a pin, no loop for a chain. If you REALLY wanted to, you could thread a chain through the filagree work, but it's probably a bit heavy to wear as a pendant, at least for me. I hope that helps ;o)
